Activist Tara Reade and Chicago organizer Joy Bunton are calling on people to participate in this Saturday’s March for Medicare for All, which is taking place in cities in all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C.
In a Wednesday interview on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Reade, who gained attention last year after levying sexual assault allegations against Joe Biden which the then-Democratic presidential candidate forcefully denied, said she was invited to speak at the Los Angeles rally, noting there is a “cross section between sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and the obstacles to accessing Medicare.”
Reade said she has “also had several family members, unfortunately, pass away from cancer, and it was economically devastating.”
Bunton, who herself said she struggled to get access to affordable healthcare to treat her autoimmune disease after losing her job, said that organizers’ goal is to focus on pushing Congress to pass Medicare for All or another single-payer healthcare system federally.
“We’re basically saying we want Medicare for All, we want it for everyone, we want it now,” she added.
