The authorities said that they responded to a “serious firearms incident” at the Keyham area of the city about 6 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, the police said in a statement that they found two males and two females deceased.
A fifth person, who police identified as a male and who was believed to be the suspect, was dead. Another female who was taken to the hospital died later on. All of the deceased are believed to have died from gunshot wounds, according to the police statement.
“The area has been cordoned off and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Investigations are continuing into the incident and disruption to the road network in the Keyham will remain throughout the night,” Devon & Cornwall police said.
Law enforcement also stressed that this was not a terror-related incident.
A witness named Sharon told the BBC that she could hear shouting in the distance and gunfire taking place afterward, calling the incident “horrendous and so sad.”
“This was when the shooter kicked in the door of a house and randomly started shooting … he ran from the house shooting as he ran and proceeded to shoot at a few people in the Linear Park up from the drive,” Sharon told the BBC.
Parliament Member Johnny Mercer shared his condolences after the incident. He reiterated that the incident was not “terror-related.”
The incident is not terror related, and neither is the suspect on the run in Plymouth. Remain calm. It is for the Police to confirm further details. Do not repost chatter or gossip; work with them. We have the best cops in the land.
