Jesse Jackson, wife ‘responding positively’ to COVID-19 treatment

The Rev. Jesse Jackson and his wife Jacqueline are “responding positively” to their COVID-19 treatment after being hospitalized with the virus, family members said on Sunday.

The civil rights leader’s son, Jonathan Jackson, told NBC News that doctors at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital have been closely monitoring the condition of the couple.

He did not specify what treatments doctors have administered or how his parents were infected with the virus, according to NBC News.

“Both are resting comfortably and are responding positively to their treatment,” Jonathan Jackson said in a statement.

Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition said in a statement Saturday that the 79-year-old leader and his wife, 77, had been hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms.

The couple received their vaccination shots in January, NBC reported.

Jesse Jackson announced in 2017 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017, making him more susceptible to the coronavirus.
