Elon Musk promises upgraded toilets, Wi-Fi on next SpaceX flight

Following SpaceX’s successful venture into space tourism, founder Elon Musk said future flights would see some upgrades — with one of them being improved toilets.

Musk wrote on Twitter in response to user comments that he had plans for updates for future missions following a debriefing with the Inspiration4 flight crew. He confirmed that upgraded toilets will be a feature on the next Dragon model aircraft, which posed “some challenges” during its inaugural passenger flight.

In addition to upgraded toilets, a small oven for heating food and functioning Starlink Wi-Fi will also be included.

The civilian crew on the Inspiration4 flight — businessman Jared Isaacman, geology professor Sian Proctor, physician assistant Hayley Arceneaux and data engineer Christopher Sembroski — spent three days in orbit after launching on Sept. 16.

The launch set the tone for future space tourism trips, though they will likely only be available for wealthy passengers given the high costs of tickets.

SpaceX is one of the three tech companies making strides in the budding space tourism industry, with its main rivals being Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin.

Both Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin previously sent passengers into space on crewed flights.
