McConaughey says ‘aggressively centric’ governments needed to fight partisan divides
Actor and Texas native Matthew McConaughey said Tuesday that levels of government need to be “aggressively centric” at this moment to overcome divisive politics and create unity.
The “Lincoln Lawyer” actor, 52, made the comments at The New York Times’s DealBook conference held this week this week during a discussion about partisan divides.
“I think our country, state, needs to be aggressively centric now,” he said, according to Bloomberg News. “It’s a daring place to go, it’s a radical move right now.”
McConaughey has previously mulled the idea of running for Texas governor, stating Tuesday that he is still considering whether or not to declare his candidacy as he determines if it will be the best way for him to make a difference.
“Trust me, I’m spending a good amount of time deliberating and really working my mind, heart and spirit on the questions,” he said, according to the news outlet.
McConaughey also suggested that he is against mandating that children get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“I couldn’t mandate having to vaccinate the younger kids. I still want to find out more information,” he said. “Right now I’m not vaccinating mine, I’ll tell you that.”
