In New York City, COVID-19 cases more than doubled since last week, according to numbers from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which reported a seven-day average of 7,235 cases, a major jump from the 3,834 average daily cases reported for the week before.
“It’s going to be a very challenging few weeks, but the good news is based on what our health care leadership understands at this moment, we are talking about a matter of weeks. We’re going to see a really fast upsurge in cases. We’re going to see a lot of New Yorkers affected by Omicron,” said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio during a press conference Monday.
“So far, thank God, based on everything we’ve seen so far, the cases are more mild than what we’ve experienced previously. But again, a lot of research we’re still waiting for, a lot of evidence we’re still waiting for.”
