NFL running back Adrian Peterson arrested on felony domestic violence charge
NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge at a Los Angeles-area airport on Sunday morning, The Washington Post reported.
Los Angeles Airport Police (LAPA) said in a statement on Monday that officers responded to a call about a possible domestic violence incident on flight that was scheduled to depart for Houston, Texas.
The plane turned back into the gate following a “a verbal and physical altercation” between Peterson and a woman who was reportedly his wife, according to the Post.
LAPA said that Peterson was taken into custody and the FBI was notified about the incident.
The plane later departed for Houston with Peterson’s wife on board, the Post reported.
In a statement, Peterson’s representative said that the running back and his wife had a verbal argument on the flight.
“This is a private misunderstanding between husband and wife and we anticipate it will all be resolved shortly,” Peterson’s rep said in a statement.
Peterson, a former league MVP, is currently a free agent and played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans in 2021.
Peterson’s arrest comes amid a slew of NFL players running into trouble with the law this season.
New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara was arrested by authorities last week on charges of alleged battery at a Las Vegas nightclub.
Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was arrested and charged in November for his involvement in a deadly DUI crash that killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog.
Ruggs’s former teammate, Damon Arnette, was arrested by authorities last month on gun and drug charges, leading to his eventual release by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Peterson, 36, was released on a $50,000 bond and will appear in a Los Angeles International Airport Superior Court hearing on June 16, the Post noted.
