Obama wins, Osama dead

Osama bin Laden is dead. Stay tuned for news from Tripoli.

I couldn’t resist a 2 a.m. visit to the grounds outside the White House
as flags were waving and Americans were cheering the killing, none too
soon, of Osama bin Laden.

It was a victory for President Obama, a victory for our heroic men and
women in uniform, a victory for the American people and good people
everywhere.

It is also a time to remember the heroic police and firefighters who stormed into burning buildings to save their neighbors on the day that September when terrorists struck. Many gave their lives. All were heroes. They are the best that America has to offer, and every day, today, they are showing the same heroism that their brothers and sisters showed that September.

Let me put this as bluntly as I can. I have no patience for the polyester patriots who give standing ovations to heroic firefighters and police one day and act as though they believe police and firefighters are union bums the next, trying to cut their retirement programs and destroy their collective bargaining rights.

These men and women are heroes. They were heroes on Sept. 11, 2001. They are heroes every day, doing work that is highly dangerous and often deadly, risking their lives and limbs to save their neighbors and fellow Americans from disaster and danger caused by nature and criminals.

Let’s treat them like the heroes they are, with integrity and not hypocrisy.

I applaud President Obama and everyone throughout our military and intelligence communities, and I salute those who risk and give their lives every day, in our neighborhoods throughout the land, who should not be treated as members of evil unions but respected as the heroes they are.
