Medicare means test highlighted

{mosads}Both the House and Senate are in session this week as the debt talks continue. The Senate Health Committee will mark up two healthcare bills on Wednesday. One would reauthorize funding for graduate medical education in pediatrics; the other would support anti-autism programs.

Also on Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce’s Oversight subcommittee will hold a hearing on the impact of medical device regulations on job creation — a potentially significant topic as Congress looks ahead to a must-pass Food and Drug Administration reauthorization bill.

Off Capitol Hill, Maine Gov. Paul LePage will join a Heritage Foundation discussion Monday on market-based healthcare solutions. Joe Negron, a Republican state senator from Florida, is also participating. LePage recently signed a bill to expand the sale of insurance across state lines, a top Republican priority, and Florida has made some high-profile adjustments to its Medicaid program.

HHS Deputy Secretary Bill Corr is one of several department officials slated to speak Monday at a conference on aging, where he’ll discuss the administration’s efforts to improve care for older Americans.
