I cover breaking news, Congress, and a range of policy issues for The Hill. I received my master's degree in global journalism and Near Eastern studies from New York University, where I reported on the challenges faced by immigrants in exile, among other topics. During my time at NYU, I founded a digital media platform called Dissent Today, which publishes human rights stories and alternative voices, primarily from South Asia. I am originally from Pakistan, where I have covered politics, social justice, and religious extremism as both an editor and a reporter for various news organizations. Prior to joining The Hill, I covered the 2024 U.S. elections for South Asian publications and worked as a fact-checker at In These Times magazine, as well as a fellow with the New York-based Asian American Writers’ Workshop. I have also freelanced for publications such as Foreign Policy, Truthout, and New Lines.
