I cover science, the climate, and the state of Texas for The Hill, with a particular focus on the state’s water politics and oil and gas industry. I also co-write our weekly Sustainability newsletter, which seeks to go beyond the day-to-day energy to uncover tomorrow’s questions around resources, land and energy. I’m a native of Texas, where I attended UT Austin and got my start as a reporter at The Texas Observer covering topics ranging from very bad doctors to the rise of the fracking industry, which changed the state’s energy landscape almost beyond recognition. Before coming to The Hill, I spent more than a decade as a freelance magazine reporter filing from place like Southeast Asia, the Amazon Basin, and the American West on the costs and conflicts that underlie the global economy — a perspective that informs my daily coverage at The Hill.
