Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) says a lot of people “aren’t ready” for a female president.
She made the comment in an interview with TriCities.com that was published on Wednesday.
“I think there was a cachet about having an African-American president because of guilt,” she told the news outlet. “People don’t hold guilt for a woman,” she said, adding that although people vote for woman for other offices, “I don’t think there is a pent-up desire” for a female president.
{mosads}Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would be considered the Democratic front-runner in the 2016 presidential race if she decides to run. She has not yet made her decision.
If Clinton were elected, Bachmann said it would just be a continuation of the Obama administration’s policies.
“Effectively she would be Obama’s third and fourth term in office,” said Bachmann, who also called Clinton “the godmother of ObamaCare.”
Bachmann ran for the Republican nomination for president in the 2012 cycle and briefly led the field in 2011.
