Former Mississippi governor Haley Barbour slammed opponents and Tea Party groups backing Sen. Thad Cochran’s challenger, state Sen. Chris McDaniel.
{mosads}“I couldn’t pick one of them out of a lineup with the Spice Girls,’ he said of national conservative leaders who are supporting McDaniel’s bid to unset the six-term senator.
“They couldn’t care less about what’s in the best interest of Mississippi,” he continued, according to USA TODAY.
“They are trying to get Cochran as a trophy scalp so they won’t go out of business for the next (election) cycle because they lost every race they’ve gotten into.”
Cochran and McDaniel are headed to a June 24 runoff in an intense fight for the Senate.
Barbour is helping to run a super PAC that has spent nearly $1.7 million trying to save Cochran’s seat.
