Senate Democrats face a daunting task in protecting their six-seat majority, but they’re continuing to rake in the cash they need for the fall — and exceeding what Senate Republicans are bringing in.
{mosads}The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee outraised its GOP counterpart by $2.6 million in May, bringing in $8.3 million to the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s $5.7 million haul.
The DSCC has $28.2 million in its coffers for November’s elections, while the NRSC has $22.1 million cash on hand. So far this cycle, the DSCC has raised $88.7 million, while the NRSC has brought in $65 million.
While the DSCC was debt free for its operations budget, it did take out a $5.2 million mortgage to purchase the Mott House, a historical home next to its Capitol Hill offices. Democrats have leased the building for more than a decade, and it’s a popular venue for meetings and fundraisers.
Democrats have 21 seats to defend compared to the GOP’s 15, but their fundraising success is one reason they are optimistic about their chances come Election Day.
“We are less than five months from Election Day, and despite hundreds of millions of dollars from the Koch brothers, Democratic candidates are leading in the battleground races across the country,” DSCC executive director Guy Cecil said. “There’s no question that if the election were held today, we would keep our majority, and that is testament to the hard work and commitment of our supporters.”
