Keith Olbermann apologized to Clinton for Lewinsky coverage

TV personality Keith Olbermann apologized to President Clinton in 1998 for his part in “perpetuating this ceaseless coverage” of the Monica Lewinsky affair, according to a just-released email between Clinton aides.

{mosads}“I’ll be heading back to my previous career in sports as quickly as possible,” Olbermann wrote.

The email was made public by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library as part of a larger release Friday of previously restricted documents related to the Clinton presidency.

The nugget about Olbermann was revealed in an email to Mark Neschis, an aide in the White House press operation, and Jennifer Palmieri, who served in the Clinton administration and is now an adviser to President Obama.

In the email, Palmieri and Neschis are asked for their thoughts on how to respond to Olbermann.

The email’s author suggests they might want to make the generic reply sent to supporters of the president “a bit
warmer” before sending it to the then-MSNBC host.
