DNC, RNC chiefs face off

Republican and Democratic campaign officials sparred Sunday over whether the upcoming midterm elections were really about President Obama’s policies or the economy.

{mosads}Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus painted the elections, coming up in nine days, as a referendum on Obama’s policies.

“Yes it is about the president, and Democrats don’t want to admit the president’s policies are on the ballot,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Priebus said there’s been “bad management, mismanagement, lack of management … and the president is the head of all of this.”

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz disagreed, saying that Republicans are using fear to scare voters on national security issues.

Rather, she said, the election is really about voting for improving the economy.

“This election is about … creating jobs, investing in education and healthcare, focusing on a foreign policy that keeps people safe from harm [and to] kicking this economy into even higher gear economically,” she said.

The midterm elections, on Nov. 4, and could flip control of the Senate from Democrats to Republicans, which could complicate Obama’s agenda in his second term.
