South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R), a possible vice presidential pick in 2016, won reelection Tuesday night, the AP projects.
The win was expected in the red state of South Carolina.
{mosads}Haley emphasized job creation and defended herself against ethics controversies, which her opponent, Democrat Vincent Sheheen put at the center of his campaign.
Haley had to reimburse the government for using a state plane to attend bill signings and news conferences, uses that are not allowed. In 2012, she was cleared of illegal lobbying allegations.
Independent Tom Ervin had dropped out and endorsed Sheheen, but did not pose a threat to Haley.
