House Dems saddled with $12M in debt

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is $12 million in the red after a cycle that saw it lose at least a dozen House seats. 

{mosads}According to a DCCC aide, the amount of debt the committee will carry into the 2016 cycle is less than the 2010 and 2012 cycles, when the committee found itself $19.5 million and $14.3 million in debt, respectively.

But it is $3.2 million more than the committee’s GOP counterpart, the National Republican Congressional Committee. The NRCC announced earlier Thursday that it is $8.8 million in debt. 

In the post-general-election reporting period with the Federal Election Commission, from Oct. 16-Nov. 24, the DCCC raised $18.7 million. The NRCC raised $7.5 million during the same period. 

The DCCC ended the period with $4.3 million in the bank, raising $114.8 million for 2014 and $190.6 million for the cycle.

Still, despite consistently outraising their GOP counterparts for most of the cycle, Democrats were on pace to lose at least a dozen seats in the next Congress. Republicans have already netted 12 House seats, giving them their largest majority in a generation.

One House race is still outstanding in Arizona’s 2nd District, where Rep. Ron Barber (D-Ariz.) trails Republican Martha McSally by 161 votes. A state-mandated recount will be conducted this month.
