RACE TO 1600 PENN
NOT A POLITICIAN: The Hill’s Jonathan Easley reports: Ben Carson is making the case for why someone with zero political experience belongs in the White House.
SHOW ME THE MONEY: The Hill’s Jonathan Easley reports: Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign has struck a deal to jointly fundraise with the DNC, an agreement that could help the group increase its cash reserves ahead of the pivotal 2016 election. Hillary Clinton signed a similar agreement in August.
SANDERS HITS ON EMAILS: The Hill’s Jesse Byrnes reports:Bernie Sanders, who said at the Democratic debate a few weeks ago that Americans were “sick and tired” of hearing about Hillary Clinton’s “damn emails,” told the Wall Street Journal that the investigation into the emails should “proceed unimpeded.”
RUBIO HITS BACK: The Hill’s Ben Kamisar reports: Sen. Marco Rubio slapped back at Donald Trump after his repeated barbs over his finances, questioning the real estate magnate’s company bankruptcy history.
SO BROOKLYN: The Washington Post reports: Sanders supporters held the most Brooklyn event ever (just a stone’s throw away from Clinton campaign headquarters)–a comedy fundraiser featuring Janeane Garofalo at a dive bar with all proceeds going to his campaign.
JEB OPENS UP: The Huffington Post reports: Jeb Bush opened up about his daughter’s battle with addiction.
WORK TO DO: The Hill’s Jesse Byrnes reports: Bernie Sanders admitted in an interview that if the election were held today, he’d lose because he lacks support from the black community.

CODE NAMES ‘YUUGE’: The Hill’s Mark Hensch reports: Donald Trump and Ben Carson have officially received Secret Service protection authorization. Please feel free to tweet me your favorite prospective code names at @bkamisar.
DWS BOILS OVER: The Hill’s Ben Kamisar reports:Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz blasted Donald Trump’s new radio ads days after he labeled her a “terrible person.”
BERNIE’S BRIEFS: The Hill’s Bradford Richardson reports: Sanders backers are encouraging you to “support briefs, not billionaires” with their own line of Bernie-themed underwear.
SLASHING THE GAS TAX: The Hill’s Keith Laing reports: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is calling for the 18.4 cents-per-gallon gas tax that pays for most federal transportation projects to be cut by 80 percent.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I think when you started out with the aliens maybe building the pyramids, you had me…When you got to Nazism, you know, you go too far.” — Sen. Rand Paul, needling rival Ben Carson for arguing that the Egyptian pyramids were grain silos rather than tombs, joking that aliens may be responsible.
CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGNS
DEMS BULLISH ON SENATE: The Hill’s Ben Kamisar reports: The Senate Democrats’ campaign arm is touting its fundraising edge, strong recruiting and Senate dysfunction as proof that the Senate majority is well within the party’s grasp, according to a new memo first obtained by The Hill.
DEMS GIVE NOD IN ARKANSAS: The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has endorsed Conner Eldridge in his bid to unseat Republican Sen. John Boozman.
AGAIN, THE ANSWER IS ‘NO’: The Tampa Bay Times reports: Urged to reconsider his earlier decision, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater did just that and came to the same conclusion — he would not run for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio. As the only candidate who held a statewide office, Atwater would have had the advantage of name recognition.
MONEY WATCH
ADELSON PRIMARY: The Hill’s Jesse Byrnes reports: Donald Trump is in contact with GOP mega-donor Sheldon Adelson, but insists he’s not looking for financial support from the casino magnate.
