Campaign says 1963 protest video shows Sanders being arrested

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders’ campaign says video footage from a school segregation protest in 1963 shows Sanders being arrested.

According to the New York Times, the video was uploaded by a company called Kartemquin Films on Monday. It shows a man with thick glasses being dragged away by two police officers and put into a van.

A campaign spokesman confirmed to the Times that the man in the video is Sanders, saying he recognized the watch he was wearing. Sanders was a student at the University of Chicago at the time.

Sanders and rival Hillary Clinton have been battling for minority voters in the Democratic race. Clinton and her supporters have accused Sanders of focusing on economic issues ahead of racial equality, and not having a history of fighting for racial justice.
