Rubio: I didn’t want GOP to be in this position

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said Wednesday he will support Donald Trump in an effort to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House.

{mosads}“I clearly didn’t want us to be in the position we are in today,” Rubio said on NBC’s “Today” show Wednesday, referring to Trump’s status as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Rubio added that he still has deep disagreements with Trump: “I was a candidate for president who tried to be the nominee myself. It didn’t work out.

“I don’t want Hillary Clinton to win. Donald Trump is the only other choice on the ballot. I recognize that I have a pledge to support the nominee on top of it, and I intend to keep it.”

Rubio suspended his campaign in March after losing badly to Trump in his home state of Florida.

Rubio, who won’t run for reelection to his seat in the Senate, said he has “deep differences” with Trump and “reservations about the way he’s conducted his campaign.”

When asked if he will speak out on behalf of Trump’s nomination, Rubio demurred.

“Donald Trump would be best served by having people out there working for him that agree with his policies and are enthusiastic about this campaign and enthusiastically supporting the things he has stood for,” he said.
