Sanders: We won’t ‘punish’ fossil fuel workers

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Friday told supporters in North Dakota that as the nation moves away from fossil fuels, he does not want to “punish” fossil fuel workers.

{mosads}“I am more than aware that North Dakota is a fossil fuel state and that there are a whole lot of workers that are supporting their families,” the Vermont senator said, according to The Bismarck Tribune.

“Our goal is not to punish the workers. It is to save this planet.”

Sanders’s rival, Hillary Clinton, faced criticism for her comments about how the nation can transition to clean energy.

“We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business,” Clinton said.

She later apologized for the comment.
