Pro-Clinton group taps FLOTUS for new ad
A pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC is taking advantage of super surrogate Michelle Obama to energize black voters in crucial swing states.
Priorities USA, which has already spent more than $150 million to defeat Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, is up with a new radio spot titled “Need.”
{mosads}The spot features the voice of the first lady, who gave one of the most talked-about speeches of the entire campaign last week when she told a New Hampshire crowd that she couldn’t stop thinking about Trump’s sexually menacing comments about women.
In the new ad, Obama impresses the urgency of getting out every vote to stop Trump.
“We cannot sit back,” she says, “and hope that everything works out for the best. We cannot afford to be tired, or frustrated, or cynical.”
The radio spot, running in markets with significant African-American populations, is part of a multimillion-dollar buy in Ohio, Florida and North Carolina, according to Priorities USA.
Clinton, the Democratic nominee, is already winning more than 90 percent of black voters; her challenge is to ensure they show up at the ballot box. Both the president and first lady have been hammering that point recently, with President Obama even saying he’d view it as a “personal insult” if blacks don’t rally behind Clinton.
“Together with President Obama, we’ve made too much progress in the last eight years to not take an active role in this election,” said Jeff Johnson, a strategist at Priorities USA.
“First lady Michelle Obama and Priorities USA know that electing Donald Trump would be detrimental to the country,” he added, “which is why we’re doing everything possible to elect Hillary Clinton as our next president and make sure that voters turn out on Election Day.”
