Poll: Clinton leading in several swing states among millennials

Hillary Clinton is leading among millennials in several battleground states, according to a survey from Yik Yak.

{mosads}The social network’s poll found that the Democratic presidential nominee leads Donald Trump among millennial voters in Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Overall, Clinton is favored by 50 percent of millennials, while Trump, the Republican nominee, is backed by just 34 percent. The Democratic nominee’s lead is down just slightly from a survey taken last month, when she held an 18-point advantage.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson has the support of 12 percent of millennials, according to the new survey, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein is backed by 4 percent.

Only 23 percent of millennials on Yik Yak said they voted for Clinton, Trump, Johnson or Stein in the primaries. The other 77 percent voted for former candidates including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

Ninety-five percent of millennials said they decided who to vote for based on a candidate’s policies. Only 5 percent said they made their choice based on the candidate’s personality.

The poll was conducted from Oct. 26 to 31 among 10,000 Yik Yak users, who are overwhelmingly millennials. The margin of error is 1.1 percentage points.

While this poll shows Clinton with a significant lead over her Republican rival among millennials, recent polls nationally have shown a tightening race overall with the election just days away.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Clinton has a narrow 1.7-point lead nationally over Trump, 45.3 percent to 43.6 percent.
