Ted Cruz: Warren could beat Trump in 2020
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is already worried about the GOP’s chances of keeping the White House in 2020.
In a panel discussion Tuesday, Cruz warned that Democrats, led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), could retake the White House in 2020 if President Trump and Republicans fail to overcome party divides that threaten their ability to govern.
“If we screw all this up, you better believe the American people could elect President Elizabeth Warren,” Cruz warned, according to the Texas Tribune.
But, he added, “if we deliver on all this, it doesn’t matter who they nominate — we win.”
{mosads}The Texas senator accused members of Trump’s administration of secretly working for the left by undermining the GOP agenda with infighting.
“Those voices in the White House that are trying to get the White House to unload on conservatives, to unload on the Freedom Caucus, are doing the bidding of the left, of [House Democratic Leader] Nancy Pelosi [Calif.] and [Senate Democratic Leader] Chuck Schumer [N.Y.],” he said.
He also told assembled media that friction between the Trump White House and Congress is “profoundly damaging our prospects of success.”
Cruz told reporters that he thinks Warren is the Democrats’ most likely choice to challenge Trump in 2020, saying he thinks it is “likely” that she decides to run.
