Father of Florida shooting victim paints mural honoring son, demanding change

The father of a student killed last month in a Florida school shooting painted a mural to honor his son and demand change.

The mural — by Manuel Oliver, the father of student Joaquin Oliver — was part of an art exhibit in Miami dedicated to the victims of the mass shooting, HuffPost reported.

The mural features a picture of Oliver’s son and the words “We demand a change.”

The mural was signed by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed in February.

A video posted by a student who survived the shooting shows the mural.

The art exhibit featuring the mural was titled “Parkland 17.” It was backed by NBA star Dwyane Wade and part of Miami’s Art Walk, which features different art exhibits in the city once a month.

Joaquin Oliver was buried in Wade’s Miami Heat jersey.

The exhibit also included statistics about gun violence and images of those killed in the shooting.

The exhibit comes as students across the country are demanding lawmakers take action to prevent future school shootings, and have planned a march later this month in Washington, D.C., to rally for gun control.

President Trump and lawmakers have also been discussing potential ways to make schools safer.
