GOP satisfaction with government grows in new Gallup poll

A growing number of Republicans are satisfied with the way the government is being run, according to a poll released Monday.

A Gallup poll found that while only 38 percent of the adults surveyed said they are satisfied with how the country is being run, 72 percent of GOP respondents are satisfied.

The GOP satisfaction has boosted the number of people who overall express satisfaction. A year ago, only 28 percent expressed such satisfaction.

And the increase among Republicans or those who lean Republican is even greater. Just 47 percent of those respondents were expressing satisfaction with the government when the poll was taken one year ago.  

{mosads}Satisfaction among Democrats remained unchanged from last year, when 10 percent said they were satisfied. 

Satisfaction among partisans generally ebbs and flows depending on which party is in power, the poll shows. 

This year’s 38 percent mark closely mirrors the 37 percent average that the Gallup poll has gotten on the annual question since it was first asked in 2001.

The poll surveyed 1,035 people from Sept. 4-12, and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

A Gallup poll released last month showed that just 19 percent of Americans polled approve of Congress’s performance, and another poll from the organization showed that 40 percent of respondents had either a “fair amount” or “great deal” of trust in the legislative branch.
