Comedian Michelle Wolf, who garnered controversy for roasting White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, called the group “cowards” over its recently announced keynote speaker selection.
“The @whca are cowards. The media is complicit. And I couldn’t be prouder,” Wolf wrote in a tweet Monday morning, shortly after the association announced historian Ron Chernow would be headlining this years event.
{mosads}Chernow, who became famous for writing 2004’s award-winning biography of Alexander Hamilton that later became the basis for the smash Broadway musical “Hamilton,” will speak at the dinner on April 27.
The WHCA typically has chosen mainstream comedians to deliver the keynote address.
Previous comedians to speak at the event include Richard Pryor, Stephen Colbert and Jay Leno, among many others.
Wolf drew intense and widespread criticism for her controversial remarks at this year’s dinner.
The comic ripped Sanders, saying she “burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smokey eye.”
President Trump has not attended the annual event since entering the White House.
