Dems see fundraising dip in July

Democrats saw a drop in fundraising last month.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Friday it raised $6.22 million in July — a decrease of almost $3 million from June. 

The committee spent $4.19 million and banked slightly less than $2 million, bringing its total cash on hand to $35.8 million. 

Earlier Friday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee revealed it had raised $4.4 million in July, well under their $7.1 million June total. 

Democratic strategists note July is typically a slow month for raising money.

Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee continues to gain ground on the DCCC.

The NRCC raised $8.5 million in July, of which $1 million was a transfer from Minority House Leader John Boehner (Ohio). The committee now has $22.1 million cash on hand — an increase of more than $5 million from June.

Republican strategists note their rivals had a six-to-one cash-on-hand advantage in December 2009, but that has shrunk as the NRCC out paced the DCCC in the money race in five of the last seven months. 

In 2008, both committees brought in close to $100 million by Election Day.
