Clinton support drops in new poll

Hillary Clinton’s lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has narrowed in a new Fox News poll released on Wednesday that shows the number of voters who want her to win the Democratic nomination falling from 61 percent in mid-June to 44 percent now.

Despite the fall-off, Clinton is still the top choice in the Democratic field.

Sanders placed second with 30 percent support, up from 15 percent in June, and Vice President Biden, who has yet to announce his candidacy, received 18 percent support.

The poll suggests the controversy surrounding Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of State is hurting her. It found that a majority of voters believe she is being dishonest about the issue.

Fifty-eight percent of respondents say the former first lady is lying about the email server, including 31 percent of Democrats, 64 percent of Independents, and 82 percent of Republicans. Thirty-two percent believe Clinton has been forthright about her emails.

Additionally, 40 percent of voters are “very” concerned and 22 percent of voters are “somewhat” concerned that the email problems will continue to plague Clinton into her presidency if she is elected.

The Fox News poll sampled 1,013 registered voters in random cellphone and landline interviews from Sept. 20-22. It has a 3 percent margin of error.
