Sanders touts plan to make ‘ultra-rich pay their fair share’
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is launching an ad campaign with renewed focus on his economic policies.
Television ads set to run in early-voting states come amid the campaign’s plan to destigmatize the Democratic presidential candidate’s status as a democratic socialist.
{mosads}“If you’re doing everything right but find it harder and harder to get by, you’re not alone,” Sanders says in an ad titled “Works for Us All” that will air in Iowa and New Hampshire.
“While our people work longer hours for lower wages, almost all new income goes to the top one percent,” he continues. “My plan: Make Wall Street banks and the ultra-rich pay their fair share of taxes.”
He also cites living wages and equal pay for women as priorities.
In another spot titled “A Rigged Economy,” Sanders says America’s finances are “held in place by corrupt politics where Wall Street banks and billionaires buy elections.”
He touts his campaign’s focus on small donors instead of super-PACs, saying that “the truth is you can’t change a corrupt system by taking its money.”
In addition to the television ads focusing on his economic platform, the campaign is also launching radio ads in South Carolina touting his record on civil rights.
“There’s no president who will fight harder to end institutional racism and reform our broken criminal justice system,” Sanders says in the ad, which will start airing next week, according to CNN.
The ad also mentions Sanders’ participation in Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington in 1963.
Sanders will campaign heavily in the South this weekend, where he trails Hillary Clinton by as many as 50 points in some states.
