Sanders plans New Year’s Eve party in Iowa
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will end 2015 in the same place where he hopes to begin a 2016 march to the White House.
The Democratic presidential candidate will hold a series of campaign events next week in Iowa, culminating in a party in Des Moines on Thursday — New Year’s Eve.
{mosads}Iowa’s presidential caucuses, the first contest in the 2016 presidential primary race, take place Feb. 1.
Sanders had drawn close to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the Hawkeye State in September and October, polling within a few points of Clinton and even ahead of her in some polls.
But Clinton has since surged and leads the state by 15 points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
Sanders’ chances look better in New Hampshire, the second contest of the 2016 race. Sanders leads Clinton in the state by 5.8 points, per RealClearPolitics.
New Hampshire’s primary takes place Feb. 9.
