Female senators to hit stump for Clinton in Iowa

Four Democratic female senators will blanket eastern Iowa this weekend, stumping for Hillary Clinton just weeks before the Iowa caucuses.

Sens. Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), Mazie Hirono (Hawaii), Amy Klobuchar (Was.) and Claire McCaskill (Mo.) will participate in five organizing events, the Clinton campaign announced Monday.

Baldwin and Klobuchar hit the stump last year in support of Clinton, while McCaskill has been a vocal surrogate on television networks singing the former secretary of State’s praises.

{mosads}”The Senators will discuss Hillary Clinton’s commitment to moving America forward by guaranteeing women’s right to make their own healthcare choices,” the campaign said in a statement.

“Hillary Clinton will always stand up for Planned Parenthood and for a woman’s right to choose, and she is honored to have the endorsement of both the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and NARAL Pro-Choice America.”

The statement adds that the senators will “discuss what’s at stake for Iowa women and families in this election.” The push just weeks ahead of the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses pits them against their Senate colleague, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is looking to topple Clinton.

Clinton currently leads Sanders by a 10.6 percent margin in the Hawkeye State, according to an average of recent polling by RealClearPolitics

Clinton has received the lion’s share of endorsements from members of Congress and the four senators campaigning for her this weekend are part of the group of 13 Democratic female senators who have endorsed Clinton. The group fundraised for her in Washington in November

The only female senator in the party to not endorse Clinton is Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who plays an important role within the party’s progressive base.

Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, will also join the campaign on Saturday in Iowa, although she will not be appearing at events with the senators.
