Clinton: ‘Absolutely’ nothing to hide in Wall Street speeches
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says there is “absolutely” nothing to hide in the transcripts of her high-dollar Wall Street speeches.
Asked Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” whether she could reassure the American public that she did not undermine her tough-on-Wall-Street stance in the paid speeches to big banks, Clinton responded: “Absolutely. Absolutely.”
{mosads}“And besides, I’m on the public record,” she added. “I told them what I’m going to do. I said I’m going to go after big banks that pose a systemic risk. I want you to hold me accountable for that because I will do that exactly.”
Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders and a cadre of Republicans have called on Clinton to make the speeches public.
But Clinton has refused to release the transcripts, saying she should not be held to a special standard.
Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, combined to earn more than $153 million from dozens of speeches prior to the former secretary of State’s presidential bid.
She charged several banks, including Goldman Sachs and Citibank, upwards of $250,000 per speech.
