Speaking in Gettysburg, Pa., Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders said President Lincoln would not have approved of super-PACs.
“I think that Lincoln, when he talked about a government of the people, by the people and for the people, it is hard to realistically and honestly state that that is where we are as a nation,” Sanders said Friday, in the town where Lincoln delivered the 1863 Gettysburg address.
{mosads}”A government of the people is not a government where candidates are elected through super-PACs and through contributions by the wealthy of hundreds of millions of dollars, and I think he would be very concerned about where we are right now.”
Sanders, who frequently bashes super-PACs and wealthy campaign contributors in his stump speeches, often brags about his average campaign contribution of $27.
He’s also made rival Hillary Clinton’s super-PAC support a major campaign issue, hitting her on big-money contributions during debates and in ads.
