Susan Sarandon: ‘I had to break up with’ Clinton

Actress Susan Sarandon said late Wednesday that she used to support Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, but then the two split, in part due to Clinton’s support for the Iraq War.

{mosads}In an interview with Stephen Colbert on CBS’s “The Late Show,” the outspoken Bernie Sanders supporter shared a picture of herself with the former secretary of State.

“Look at how happy we were,” Sarandon said. “Then I had to break up with her.”

The “Thelma and Louise” star said that then-Sen. Clinton had supported the Iraq invasion despite vocal opposition from Sarandon and other activists.

“So I was like, ‘Who is this person? I can’t trust her,” she said.

Sarandon also cited Clinton’s support for fracking and opposition to raising the minimum wage to $15. She explained that she supported Sanders because he had always supported progressive ideals.

“You need somebody that has the moral judgment beforehand, not when it’s safe,” she said.

Colbert asked her if she would vote for Clinton if Sanders loses the nomination.

“I’m not dealing with that yet,” she said.

Sarandon was widely criticized by the left for saying last month that she didn’t know if she would vote for Clinton over Trump in a general election. Colbert pressed her about those comments as well.

“I’m more afraid of Hillary Clinton’s war record and hawkishness than I am of building a wall,” she added. “But that doesn’t mean I would vote for Trump.”
