The law professor mounting a primary challenge against Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) hailed the endorsement he received from Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Saturday.
{mosads}”I’m so proud to know that Bernie Sanders favors our progressive campaign,” Tim Canova said in a statement on Saturday. “Like Senator Sanders, I’m running a campaign that’s truly backed by the people, not big corporations — one that stands up to Wall Street interests instead of cozying up to them.
“Together, I feel confident that our campaign of nurses, teachers, students, seniors and working class Floridians can work together to demand accountability from our leaders, and offer a more positive path forward to the people of Florida’s 23rd district,” he added.
Sanders announced the endorsement Saturday during an interview with CNN in which he was asked about Canova’s challenge to the Democratic National Committee chairwoman.
“Well, clearly, I favor her opponent,” Sanders said in an interview to air Sunday on “State of the Union.” “His views are much closer to mine than as to Wasserman Schultz.”
President Obama and Vice President Biden have backed Wasserman Schultz and vowed to help campaign for her.
