A former Pentagon spokesman and Mike Huckabee adviser is endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential bid, he told The Hill Monday.
{mosads}Cmdr. J.D. Gordon served four years as a spokesman under Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates. He also worked for 2012 GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain, advising the political outsider on foreign affairs and taking on the role of spokesman.
“After serving as a Pentagon spokesman and Chief Foreign Policy Adviser to both a Governor and a Corporate CEO during the 2016 and 2012 campaign cycles respectively, I believe our next president ought to have extensive leadership and executive experience,” Gordon, said in a statement given to The Hill.
“While some presidential candidates have made their careers centered around giving eloquent speeches, with which I largely agree, that alone is not sufficient to serve as our Commander-in-Chief. The stakes are simply too high.”
Gordon, who contributes to The Hill’s commentary section, added that he’s offered his foreign policy experience to the campaign.
While Trump still lags behind his rivals in endorsements, he’s seen some momentum ahead of Super Tuesday, where he’s poised to add to his delegate lead. He also snagged his first Senate endorsement in Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), along with an endorsement from Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.”
Gordon added that Huckabee Sanders’ decision to join Trump and the recent endorsement of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, swayed his decision.
Gordon is not the first former Huckabee staffer to align with Trump. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who served as her father’s campaign manager, signed on in February. Huckabee himself has defended Trump but said he wouldn’t endorse in the primary.
