Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump late Friday lamented the fact that he may face a contested convention despite racking up many more votes and delegates than his opponents.
“Isn’t it a shame that the person who will have by far the most delegates and many millions more votes than anyone else, me, still must fight,” Trump tweeted.
{mosads}Trump leads the race with 743 delegates. Ted Cruz has 520, and John Kasich has 143.
However, Trump would need to reach 1,237 delegates to clinch the nomination outright. Otherwise, he will face off with a formidable anti-Trump movement at the Republican convention in July, with the nomination still up for grabs.
There are 769 delegates still available in the remaining contests, including 95 in New York, where Trump is hugely favored. The Empire State’s primary is April 19.
