Shutdown fight spreads to VA governor’s race with ads targeting federal workers

{mosads}The ads target federal workers in Northern Virginia, where nearly one third of the economy relies on the federal government, and in the military-heavy Hampton Roads region.

The shutdown could have a severe impact on Virginia’s economy, and stands to become a major campaign issue with one month left to go until the election.

Cuccinelli has already been pressing hard on the issue, running targeted web ads and releasing a web video slamming his opponent for siding “with Democrats who refuse to bargain” on cuts to ObamaCare in order to reopen the government.

On Monday morning he released a radio ad in
Northern Virginia saying McAuliffe “deserves part of the blame” for the
shutdown because he is “against working together to find solutions.

Cuccinelli has said he doesn’t support a government shutdown, though he hasn’t gone so far as to say he disagrees with congressional Republicans, and plans to attend a weekend event with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a vocal opponent of funding the government without cutting funding for ObamaCare.
