Republican Doug Ducey has won Arizona’s gubernatorial race, beating Democratic opponent Fred DuVal, according to an Associated Press projection.
Ducey, the state’s treasurer and former CEO of Cold Stone Creamery, was favored to win in the red state.

Ducey will replace Gov. Jan Brewer (R), who told a Phoenix NBC affiliate that she was excited about Ducey winning.
“I think we’re on the rise,” said Brewer to the Phoenix NBC affiliate. “It is bittersweet [for me] but I don’t have any regrets. I think I was very successful as governor.”
