Rangel running for reelection

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) confirmed rumors he’s running for reelection in a Thursday op-ed for the New York Daily News.

According to an early preview of the piece, Rangel says he’s “fired up” to run, in part to serve for the rest of President Obama’s second term.

{mosads}”After reflection and speaking with constituents in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx I proudly represent, I am all the more fired up about fighting to advance the unfinished business under the most exciting presidency in my lifetime,” Rangel says.

The 22-term lawmaker was considered a retirement risk for much of this year, as he’s expected to face a difficult fight in the primary from state Sen. Adriano Espaillat.

Espaillat could take advantage of the district’s sizable Hispanic population, as well as the persistent shadow that hangs over Rangel from his Ethics Committee censure in 2010.
