Radel to return to Congress next week

Rep. Trey Radel (R-Fla.), who took a leave of absence from Congress in late November after pleading guilty to cocaine possession, will return to Congress next week, a source in his office confirmed to The Hill.

{mosads}Radel was sentenced to a year of probation and left Congress to attend rehab in Florida for alcohol abuse after he was busted buying cocaine from an undercover agent at a restaurant in Washington’s Dupont Circle earlier this year.

He hasn’t announced whether he plans to run for reelection yet, but his troubles have already inspired a number of his former primary challengers to take a look at launching rematches against him.

Multiple Republicans, including the chairman of the Florida GOP, have called for his resignation, and a super-PAC with ties to a former primary challenger who has expressed interest in the race has already raised $1 million to help oust him.
