Illinois Republican Rep. Aaron Schock will chair the National Republican Congressional Committee’s March fundraising dinner.
{mosads}Schock, 32, is raising more than $2 million for the dinner. The committee announced he’s already raised $1.1 million for the event and has committed to raising another $1 million by March 26, the date of the dinner. Earlier, House Republicans tapped former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to headline the annual fundraising dinner.
“Aaron Schock is a bright young leader, one of the hardest working Members in the House and committed to growing our majority,” said NRCC Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) in a statement. “I can’t think of a more qualified person to head up this vital effort, and he has already hit the ground running.”
The NRCC has consistently been out-raised by its Democratic counterpart, partly due to the help the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has received from President Obama, who’s headlined multiple fundraisers for both the House and Senate campaign committees.
At the end of November, the DCCC had $27.6 million in the bank to the NRCC’s $19.6 million.
Still, Democrats have a much tougher task ahead of them in trying to flip 17 seats during a midterm election, when the party holding the White House typically loses seats.
