Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R) has raised more than $300,000 in her first month as a House candidate, Comstock’s campaign told The Hill; she raked in the huge haul as she seeks retiring Rep. Frank Wolf’s (R-Va.) seat.
It’s no surprise that Comstock, a former Wolf staffer and a Republican power player, has quickly amassed a strong war chest. But her haul is impressive nonetheless — she raised more in one month than many congressmen facing tough races did in the entire three-month quarter.
{mosads}”We are very pleased with the outpouring of support that we have received since we announced Barbara was running for the 10th District just 4 weeks ago today,” Comstock campaign manager Susan Falconer told The Hill in an email. “Barbara has both a winning legislative record and a solid winning election record.”
Comstock has also been locking in big-name support from across the party. She has the endorsement of Mitt Romney, who she worked for as a surrogate and adviser in 2012, as well as support from conservative radio host Mark Levin, Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips, the American Conservative Union and Citizens United.
Comstock might need those funds, however. Two other Republicans with support in the district, former Senate candidate Howie Lind and Virginia Del. Bob Marshall, are also giving serious thought to running.
Democrats also hope to make the race competitive in the fall. The Northern Virginia district leans slightly Republican — Romney won it by a single percentage point in 2012.
