Openly gay California House candidate Carl DeMaio (R) is out with a new Web ad that briefly features his partner.
DeMaio, who is running in a hotly contested race against Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.), has been selling himself as a libertarian-leaning “new generation Republican.”
{mosads}His new ad has a quick shot of him and partner Jonathan Hale holding hands while marching in a 2012 gay pride parade, as well as a picture of him standing under the rainbow-striped gay pride flag.
The video describes DeMaio as “a problem-solver who isn’t afraid to be different” who “believes in equality and diversity and is a defender of our personal freedoms.”
DeMaio is one of three openly gay Republicans running for Congress, and has received support from many in House GOP leadership.
