Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas) is being attacked for his age by a group backing his primary election opponent.
{mosads}Now or Never PAC, which has endorsed former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffe (R), is running an ad pointing out that Hall is the oldest member ever to serve in Congress and calling him ineffective.
“Ralph Hall was first elected to Congress when Jimmy Carter was president. Now he’s 90 — the oldest member in Congress, ever,” the ad says. “But with Texas families struggling, he isn’t making a difference for us anymore. Hall is a Washington insider who’s voted for Washington earmarks and to increase the debt ceiling. Times have changed. After 33 years, let’s bring Ralph Hall home.”
The group didn’t disclose how much it’s spending but said the ad would run on Fox News and ESPN and during March Madness basketball tournament.
Ratcliffe forced Hall into a runoff earlier this month and has a big cash advantage over the longtime congressmen. The two will square off again in late May.
Hall led Ratcliffe in the first round of voting, 45 percent to 27 percent, but Now or Never released a poll showing Ratcliffe with a double-digit lead earlier this week.
