NRCC chairman won’t call for McAllister to quit

National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Greg Walden (Ore.) declined to call for Rep. Vance McAllister’s (R-La.) resignation on Sunday, days after a video showing him kissing a married staffer went public.

{mosads}”It’s bad. It’s wrong. He needs to answer and be held accountable,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

McAllister has faced calls from the chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party and Gov. Bobby Jindal (R ) to resign, but has so far declined to heed those calls. Congressional leadership has been reluctant thus far to outright call for the congressman to step down.

If McAllister does resign, or decides not to run for reelection, the district favors Republicans. But if he runs again, Democrats believe they have a shot at the seat.

Walden said he hadn’t spoken to the congressman since the video surfaced.

He did say, however, that McAllister “needs to answer to his people and his family and needs to be held to a very high standard in Congress. And I don’t think he’s been held to that standard.”

“We should be held to a higher standard than what I’ve seen in that video,” Walden added.
