House Dems raise record $4.8M off impeachment

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) hauled in $4.8 million in the past week, as it warned of Republican efforts to impeach President Obama.

{mosads}DCCC Chairman Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) tweeted out the news Friday morning, saying that more than 240,000 people had given to the committee in the past week. The $4.8 million in weekly fundraising is a new record for the committee.

The weekly haul is also larger than some monthly fundraising totals for the DCCC in recent years.

The Democratic campaign arm has led the National Republican Congressional Committee in fundraising this election cycle. The bump in fundraising will widen the cash edge it has over the NRCC heading into the fall elections.

The money is flooding in amid a concerted push by Democrats to portray the GOP as intent on impeaching Obama.

GOP leaders in Congress have repeatedly ruled out impeachment and say Democrats are running a fundraising “scam” to scare voters.
