Boehner taps Ariz. House Speaker to deliver GOP address

House Speaker John Boehner has tapped Andy Tobin to give the weekly Republican address on Saturday, boosting the Arizona state House speaker as he takes on vulnerable Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in November.

Tobin will be the first House challenger to deliver the GOP address this year, and will discuss his campaign “to get Washington bureaucrats out of the way of hard-working families and small businesses in rural Arizona,” Boehner’s office said.

{mosads}“Andy Tobin is a proven conservative leader who knows what it takes to create jobs and get America back on track,” Boehner said in a statement. “Andy can win his race because he’s listening to Arizonans and fighting for their priorities, and I’m glad he’ll be delivering this week’s address.”

Tobin won the GOP nomination for Arizona’s 1st District last month after a tight three-way race. The sprawling, rural district includes Flagstaff and other parts of northeast and eastern Arizona.
